Software Programs

Beginning training preparatory for providing the basic skills needed in many related careers may be accomplished by using only IBM ViaVoice Pro 10 USB or Dragon Naturally Speaking available at most electronic stores or online for about $189 to $235. Note: the ViaVoice product is compatible only on computers using the XP operating system.

After completing the basic training with VCI, graduates will want to research the purchase of more sophisticated software advantageous if the realtime voicewriter wants to pursue a court reporting or captioning career.  Eclipse by Advantage Software, Inc is one vendor to consider. Check out http://www.eclipsevoxrocks.com for more details. ProCAT software is another consideration.   Also check out http://www.stenograph.com/ to research realtime voice writing software for court reporting, CART, and captioning. Stenograph's CATalyst VP,combines speech recognition with the powerful features of Case CATalyst software.  These software programs using voice input built their advanced features on the foundation software of either ViaVoice or Dragon

Hardware equipment

Voicewriters operating in public environments need to be equipped with a speech silencer mask with volume sensitivity features.  The preferred vendor is Talk Tech, Inc. (www.talk-tech.net) or phone 888-811-9944.

VCI prefers not to endorse specific laptop or notebook computer manufacturers, but caution is needed to purchase appropriate specifications needed by these professions.
