When I decided to make the switch to voice writing from steno, I’ll
admit, I was nervous about it. I had
been in steno school for three years and
invested so much time and money that it
was hard to let it all go. I knew,
though, that I would never be able to
make it through. I just felt like I
needed to keep trying.
After seeing me struggle so much with
speed building, my mentor mentioned
voice writing as an option for me. I
began looking into the profession. Was
it possible that I could still use what
I had learned in steno school and
somehow salvage a career out of it? YES!
I wish I had found Verbatim Career
Institute sooner. Making the switch was
the smartest decision I made. I love the
program that VCI offers. Ardith was just
a phone call away anytime that I had a
question. Really, anytime!
I made it very quickly through the
program, starting VCI in April, and
captioning for an online class, REALTIME,
by June! If someone would have told me
four months ago that I would be able to
caption for a Geology 101 class
ACCURATELY, I would never have believed
it. I did it, though, and was well paid
for my efforts!
I‘ve never written a testimonial letter
before. When I have read them, while
researching different schools, I admit I
was always a little jealous. I wanted to
be finished too; I wanted to be able to
be excited about a program just like
others. Well, it’s finally MY turn! I am
now a working captioner, thanks to
Verbatim Career Institute!

I
have always been fascinated by the
field of voicewriting and wanted to
learn more. After years of study as
a steno student, I decided to
transition by joining
VCI with a focus
on CART/Captioning. Ardith’s solid
reputation in the industry and her
flexible distance learning program
really sold me. I was pleasantly
surprised to find out how much
fun it was to train as a voicewriter! Feedback was fast and
making contact was easy. I could
always count on Ardith’s support,
encouragement, knowledge and
experience. I’m grateful that
VCI allowed me to
pursue my training at a pace that
suited me perfectly.
